I opened up thIS conversation IN the RIPENING Sanctum the other day and I would Love to open up an even bigger, wider and deeper communal conversation and contemplation about the overAll concept of PAIN-FREE BIRTH AND Orgasmic Birth (which to me IS not the same as, yet IS not separate from ORGASMIC Birth). It's One thINg to have a pain-free Birth, and it's another to have an Orgasmic Birth. HavINg a pain-free Birth does not necessarily mean you Will have an Orgasmic Birth ... and havINg an Orgasmic Birth does not necessarily mean you Will have a pain-free Birth. Orgasmic Birth IS not simply the absence of pain, it IS the ENDURING and PENETRATIVE PRESENCE of PLEASURE and more so, ecstasy durINg and throughout Birth. I BElieve there IS a spectrum through which Women oscillate durINg and throughout their Birth experience and pilgrimmage, and that generally Women don't just stagnate and exist IN One state on that spectrum (see the image BElow for more clarity).
I remember when I first learned about the concept and Lived experience of Orgasmic Birth and how INspirINg it was and how the potentiality of it made sense IN my Blood, Bones and Body! I recognized that the conditions have to BE soooooo conducive, just like how the conditions have to BE so conducive to orgasm, overAll. I would Love to experience an Orgasmic Birth, if that IS Gods Will for me AND I AM fully ripe & ready to experience a painful Birth if that IS Gods Will for me KnowINg I AM fully equipped to meet that pain and to not BE overtaken / overridden by it. I AM receptive to and prepared to HOLD and Honor the full spectrum experience of my Birth.
WE Live IN a society that IS so focused and fixated on pain-free this, pain-free that. When it comes to our Bleed and Birth. The entire orientation IS how WE can avoid and/or transcend pain, rather than get IN right and Faithful relationship with pain so that WE do not FEAR its arrival. The more WE fear pain and avoid contact and relationship with pain, the less equipped WE are to meet pain with a courageous and convicted HeART. I BElieve it’s the fear of pain itSelf that makes pain SO overtakINg / overridINg. I BElieve every Birth IS different IN terms of sensationality and that God Will Purpose for us the exact Birth that Will restore our Faith and return us to Love ... so that WE can remember our Wholeness and INtegrity. I BElieve our own Birth IS the site of BEINg dismembered from our Wholeness and INtegrity and that when WE give Birth WE are given an opportUNITY - a port to UNITY (to r e m e m b e r).
WE Live IN a culture that IS soooooo averse to pain. Which IS completely connected to our collective and cultural aversion to DEATH (and avoidINg Death or controllINg Death). It's rooted IN the same fundamental fear of Death. Collectively and culturally there IS a trend of measurINg, monitorINg and managINg All aspects of Life, INcludINg the most Natural and immINent Ones like Birth and Death.
IN my personal Truth system, SEEKING and STRIVING TOWARDS a pain free and/or Orgasmic Birth IS not respectINg and reverINg physiological Birth. Yes, I BElieve it IS INHERently available to every Woman to experience pain free and/or Orgasmic Birth AND I BElieve that Birth IS One of the greatest Teachers and teachINgs every BEstowed upon a Woman IN terms of showINg Her where Her Faith IS INverted, and where She Lives IN a state of fear, and therefore resistance and contraction / closure. Faiths enables flow.
Ultimately, it IS thIS respect and reverence for the mysterious, miraculous and non-lINear process and pilgrimage that IS Birth, that can and Will lead to a Truly reconcilINg and restorative Birth experience. Painful, or not. Orgasmic, or not.
An INvitation for illumINation and INtegration —
How can I open mySelf up to thIS experience, without BEcomINg and BEINg attached to an outcome? How can I open mYSelf up to thIS experience, while also stayINg softened, receptive, surrendered and Faithful to whatever experience DOES unfold for me?
The distortion that prevails IN our World, where Women are often othered, marginalized or questioned for not DesirINg an epidural durINg ChildBirth, reveals and illumINates the deep-seated misperceptions surroundINg the essence of Birth itSelf. IN truth, Birth IS a profound pilgrimage, One that holds PURPOSE BEyond measure, transcendINg mere physical sensations.
Birth IS a Rite of Passage, a transformational experience that ushers new Life INto the World. WithIN its tapestry, pain exists as an INtegral thread. The pain a Woman experiences durINg and throughout Birth IS the most PURPOSEFUL Pain She Will EVER experience IN Her entire Life. The immINent PLEASURE AND PROFOUND PURPOSE OF MOTHERHOOD AWAITS EVERY WOMAN, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT PAIN. The pain that you experience durINg Birth IS not pathological like WE have BEen LIED to. ThIS distinction IS pivotal – it's a delineation BEtween pain as a symptom of somethINg wrong and pain as a sacred threshold that a Woman crosses to brINg forth Life.
IN many ways, society's erroneous pathologization of Birth pain has paved the way for its medicalization. By framINg Birth pain as something to BE eradicated, subdued, or managed, WE've INadvertently stripped away the profound Purpose it holds. Birth IS an INtricate dance and commUNION BEtween a Woman's Body and the very Source and force of Life (GOD). It IS a primal process that engages and INvolves Her physically, emoceanally, energetically and Spiritually IN ways She has never BEen engaged or INvolved BEfore.
The pain of Birth carries Wisdom – it tells a story of emPowerment and emBodiment, of the awe-INspirINg capacity of a Woman's Body, and of Devotion. It IS the epitome of Missional Service. It IS a testament to the INnate Power that courses through a Woman's veins.
EmbracINg thIS INnerstandINg redefines the narrative. Rather than BEINg seen as a hurdle to overcome, Birth pain can BE recognized as a conduit of transformation. It IS the crucible where courage, Faith, Will and resilience INtertwINe. It's the INtimate INtersection where a Woman's Body aligns with a rhythm and resonance that echoes timeless Truth from the generations that have come BEfore Her.
HERE'S TO US ALL KNOWING THE ABILITY AND CAPACITY THAT RESIDES AND RESTS IN OUR BONES, OUR BLOOD AND OUR BODY'S.
