If I had a dollar for every time I saw a MotHER say somethINg like, “my Creativity happens IN the ‘margINs of MotHERhood’”, I’d BE a millionaire by Now.
To me, thIS reveals a quiet, pervasive tension many Women carry — the sense that MotHERINg and Creativity stand opposed. One calls for complete self-sacrifice; the other, unrestraINed freedom. As if to tend to One IS to BEtray the other. As if their Creative impulses must BE set aside IN order to fully embrace the work of MotHERINg, or conversely, that MotHERhood stifles or even erases their ability to Create.
But what dISsolves thIS false dichotomy IS the realization that MotHERINg IS Creativity IN its most saturated form. THere actually IS no separation.
What could BE more Creative, more generative, than the stewardship of a Soul — shepherdINg a Life from the unseen INto the seen, from the formless INto form? MotHERhood IS not a hINdrance to Creativity; it IS the most emBodied act of Creation.
And yet, the modern World tends to defINe Creativity IN terms of external productivity — art, writINg, business, output that can ultimately BE measured, monetized, and consumed. ThIS IS why many Women feel a rupture, rather than rapture, when they BEcome MotHERs: the deeply hidden, slow, and INvisible work of formINg and nurturINg Life does not fit INto the World’s framework of “Creativity.” But when WE step back and INnerstand that Creation IS not merely about producing thINgs but about brINgINg forth Fruit — IN All its forms — the supposed tension BEtween MotHERINg and Creativity dISsolves entirely.
To MotHER IS to Create. To Create IS to MotHER.
Both require the same posture of obedience, submission, surrender, patience, and Faith IN the Mystery and Miracle of God’s good work. It’s less about how to balance MotHERINg and Creativity, and more about whether WE are WillINg to recognize the Creative force already flowINg through IN the Holy, hidden, daily work of brINgINg forth and sustaININg Life.
So I ask you, MotHER —
Can you learn to see MotHERINg as One glorious act of Creativity / CREATION?
Can you recognize that every moment of nurturINg, every whispered Prayer, every meal prepared, every hand held, and every tear wiped aWay IS a stroke of ARTISTRY? That the rhythms of daily Life — the foldINg, the feedINg, the soothINg, the shapINg — are the makINgs of a masterpiece BEINg woven INto Eternity?
Can you resISt the pull of a World that demands external validation, that measures worth IN output, IN metrics, IN thINgs seen and sold?
Can you let go of the pressure to do / BE more and INstead sINk INto the fullness of what already IS?
Can you stop strivINg and reachINg and seekINg? Can you unclench your hands and soften your HeART INto the reality that MotHERINg IS makINg? That to nourish a Life, to hold space for growth, to BEar, to Birth, to sustaIN — IS the most potent and prolific form of Creation?
Can you surrender — not IN resignation, but IN Holy abandon? Can you allow yourself to BE fully poured out, KnowINg that IN the givINg, you are not dimINished but multiplied?
Can you give yourself wholly to it? Not just IN duty, but IN Devotion. Not just IN function, but IN fullness.
Can you rest and Root IN the KnowINg that thIS IS enough? That thIS IS EVERYTHING?
"Your greatest contribution to the kingdom of God may not be something that you do but someone that you raise."
The greatest work WE Will ever do as Women ISn’t IN what WE produce but IN Who WE form.
Motherhood ISn’t a side quest. It ISn’t an add-on, an INterruption, or a detour from your “real” Purpose. It IS the most VITAl, valuable and virtuous work a Woman can give herself to — not as something that competes with Her Purpose, but as the very fulfillment of it.
